- My new motto is “kill them with kindness.” After the disappointment last week, I felt inspired to email a thank you note to the individual I originally chatted with-the one who resolved my transcript issues. I sent a very courteous email thanking her for saving me both time and money. She replied with a you’re welcome and she included the name and phone number of the person who headed up the committee for the particular scholarship I had applied for. I contacted her, explained the situation, and asked-very nicely-whether she would reconsider my application. Clearly, she’d heard my story before. She was a little short with me, but I oh-so-kindly persevered and asked again if she would reconsider. She hesitantly agreed, but warned me that funds were low and she couldn’t promise anything. The next day I received both a “declined” letter and an “accepted” one. I emailed her to ensure I did indeed receive the scholarship and she confirmed that, yes, it was mine. I am certain had I not emailed the first person I would never have received the scholarship at all. So inspiration and kindness saved the day. It doesn’t cover the full amount of my tuition by any means, but it’s nothing to scoff at either. So there’s some happiness and joy. Lots of it.
- I am working at the theatre today. My new boss, T, just came in and is reorganizing all over the place. T is nifty. He’s the cat’s meow. I don’t mean that sarcastically, by the way-he is truly an awesome guy. Gonna be good working for him. I had to type that. ‘Cause now he knows I have a blog and he knows how to find it.
- Last week I took a diversity training for my full-time job. It was supposed to be an all-day affair, but midway through the day, one of the trainers collapsed. I don’t know whether he had a heart attack or what. He was only out about 10 seconds, but he was really out of it when he woke up. Called 911 and they took him to the hospital. As of yesterday he was still there getting tests run, but he’s doing better; he’s annoying the hospital staff and being perpetually cheerful, so hopefully he’ll be out of there soon. He’s a great guy and I was really getting a lot out of the workshop. I’ll have to take it again next time it’s offered and pray for a little less excitement.
- Speaking of diversity training, I want to see Grand Torino. L2 saw it the other day and she said it was really good. It has Clint Eastwood, so how could it be anything other than good? I’m just saying.
- My dad solved the digital conversion issue by swapping out the 32″ tube for a 46″ panel HDTV. My step-monster was all for the conversion box, but this time my dad got his own way. He doesn’t often-mostly he gives in to whatever the monster wants, but he held his ground this time. Go dad! Plus he got a DVD recorder/player, so he’s extra thrilled. I know most of the world has had DVD players for a while now, but the monster is anti-technology. She barely discovered the VCR. So this is big. Big, I tell you.
- Starbucks is coffee is yummy. Here’s a tip. If you have to doctor it up a lot with cream and sugar, it is not good coffee. If, however, you need like six packets of sugar and a vat of cream, you might want to invest in better coffee.
I think this is all the randomness for now. I’ve been not-so-sneakily doing my blog RIGHT IN FRONT of my new theatre boss. I have no respect, do I?

- I am not getting a scholarship. The reason I am not getting a scholarship is because I was admitted “provisionally.” The reason I was admitted provisionally was because the graduate school needed transcripts from the community college I attended-transcripts the school already had, actually, but no one looked it up. I went to admissions and in approximately 15 minutes, it was all cleared up and I am officially admitted unconditionally. But I don’t get the scholarship because the deadline was in December. So even though the school already had my information, I am still ineligible because I didn’t make sure it was cleared up in December. It’s tremendously annoying and-yes, I’m going to use the word even though it’s the whiniest word ever-completely unfair. Yeah, I know. Life is unfair. That doesn’t stop me from being annoyed.
- I cheered myself up by watching a SNL sketch with Neil Patrick Harris-how to save Broadway. It was brilliant. I LOL’d. Really-not like when I type LOL even though I’m only laughing on the inside. Don’t mock-we’ve all done it. Anyway, here it is. Enjoy.
I think this is all the randomness for today…still a little cranky.

- WordPress does this spiffy thing where you can see the top searches that surfers input in order to be directed to this page. It turns out that “d0g p0rn” is the top search directing newbies to my page. I used that term in reference to my dog, Sydney, who kept rolling over and showing me her tummy while I was trying to get a picture of her. I find it incredibly disturbing that there are so many people who are interested in d0g p0rn. I have therefore replaced the letter “o” with the numeral “0″. It looks kind of the same, but hopefully that should take care of the d0g p0rn searches associated with my blog. Really, people. Sheesh.
- I bought coffee this morning from QT and a very cute guy was chatting me up while I was doctoring it–the end result is that I wasn’t paying attention and I way-the-hell oversugared it. I had to throw it out, only I felt guilty for doing that so I wound up paying them for two coffees. It’s only fair.
- I got my DVD of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. If you haven’t seen it, you really should. Classic Joss, plus Neil Patrick Harris (yes, of Doogie, but more importantly, he steals every show as Barney in How I Met Your Mother) sings. What’s not to like? It’s about Dr. Horrible’s (“I have a PhD in Horribleness”) ascent to super-villian extraordinaire. Seriously. His goal is to join the Evil League of Evil and win Penny’s heart. Also, he wouldn’t mind eliminating his arch nemesis, Captain Hammer, played brilliantly (e.g. what a frickin’ ham-AWESOME) by Nathan Fillion. Who also sings. Everybody sings. Even the commentary is done in song. Good times.
- I paid for those two weeks off. BIG TIME. Monday beat me up and made me go cry in a corner like a little baby.
- I have an all day orientation tomorrow for grad school. I think it might be lame, but they’re making me go.
- I have a haircut appointment in 45 minutes. I have put it off for about three months, but the hair is now unbearable and must be cut. I need to color it too, but can’t really afford it right now. I think I’m going to try coloring it myself this weekend.
- My nails are long right now. My grannie would be so proud. I’m going to enjoy it now, because I can guarantee I will be biting them again come finals.
- My work mom is back at work and that makes me happy. Everyone needs a good work mom. I think mine is probably the best work mom a girl could have. She’s damn swell.
- I made no new years resolutions this year. At least not yet. I’m not ruling it out. It’s just that I completely flaked on all of last new years resolutions. I have actually gained weight. I have slightly more debt than I did this time last year. And I’m still, on occasion annoyed by my job. And I shouldn’t be any of those things. There’s been a bit of self-flagellation (did I spell that right?) on my part.
Here endeth the randomness. I have to work now. Then get a hair cut…
